1. Google-backed payment company Ripple is in talks with banks in India and the NPCI to facilitate account-to-account transfers globally. Axis Bank and Yes Bank are the first Indian banks to come on board Ripple, which already has 75 customers globally. Unlike Swift -a messaging platform which is the dominant medium for global payments -Ripple is a messaging as well as a settlement platform. It facilitates account to account transfers across the world for banks and non-banks. |
2. India test-fires Agni-III ballistic missile. India carried out a fresh user trial of 3,000 kilometre range Agni-III ballistic missile from Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast today. The Strategic Forces Command with logistics support from Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the test from launch pad No. 4 of the Integrated Test Range. Defence sources said the test was aimed at re-establishing the operational effectiveness of the weapon system. |
3. Unified Payments Interface goes live on Samsung Pay. Samsung Pay, through its partnership with NPCI and Axis BankBSE -2.19 %, will now have access to all the 44 banks which are live on UPI. Using their Paytm mobile wallets, consumers can purchase 24K 999.9 purity gold online and store it in MMTC—PAMP’s secure vaults free of charge. Investment as low as Re 1 is enough to buy the yellow metal. |

8. NASA successfully launched its football-stadium-sized super balloon from New Zealand. It is a heavy-lift Super Pressure Balloon (SPB) from Wanaka, New Zealand. The mission is designed to run 100 or more days floating at 110,000 feet (33.5 km) about the globe in the southern hemisphere's mid-latitude band. The balloon is designed by NASA to detect ultra-high energy cosmic particles from beyond the galaxy as they penetrate the earth's atmosphere. |
9. The first flight under the Regional Connectivity Scheme operated on the Shimla-New Delhi route. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the maiden flight under the government's ambitious plan to provide connectivity to far and remote areas of the country. Over 45 unserved and under-served airports would be connected under the scheme- UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik)- that seeks to make flying more affordable. |
10. Nita Ambani made member of IOC’s Olympic Channel Commission. India’s first woman International Olympic Committee member Nita Ambani has made it to two important commissions of the global sports governing body, including the prestigious Olympic channel. Besides the Olympic Channel, Ms. Ambani has also been made a member of Olympic education Commission as IOC announced the composition of 26 commissions for 2017. She is one of the 16 members of the Olympic Channel Commission headed by United States Olympic Committee Chairman Lawrence Francis Probst. |
