The Barasingha or swamp deer is the state animal of Madhya Pradesh.
The mascot was chosen among four variations by the Madhya Pradesh forest department.

2. 'Namami Brahmaputra' festival is inaugrated by president in Assam
President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the festival on the banks of the river Brahmaputra, which is considered country's only male river.

4. Peggy Whitson broke the record for the most spacewalks by a woman.
Whitson at the age of 57, is making her eighth career spacewalk, surpassing the record of seven previously held by American Sunita Williams. Ms Whitson earned a doctorate in biochemistry and served as the first female space station commander in 2008.

5. El Salvador becomes first country in the world to ban metals mining
The new law, supported by 70 lawmakers, bans all exploration, extraction, and processing of metals both in open pits and mines. The level of environmental pollution in El Salvador is one of the highest in the region and the availability of drinking water is the lowest, according to UN data.

9.Pakistani cricketer Irfan banned for one year for failing to report approach
Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Irfan has been banned from all forms of cricket for a year and a fine of USD 1000 after he pleaded guilty to failing to report details of two approaches to corrupt the game.
His ban is effective from the day he was provisionally suspended on 14th March.
