1. Geetha Johri appointed as the first woman DGP of Gujarat.

She has replaced P P Pandey, who resigned recently. Johri is posted at the State Police Housing Corporation in Gandhinagar.

2. Malaysia agrees to set up technology park in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board and MIGHT (Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology) Technology Nurturing Sdn. Bhd (MTN) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on building the park, which will cover 250 acres and focus on new technologies.

3. UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2017 award won by Dawit Isaak

Isaak was chosen for the prestigious award in recognition of his courage, resistance, and commitment to freedom of expression. The Prize will be awarded on 3 May 2017, World Press Freedom Day, to be hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia.

4. SASEC's Finance Ministers Meeting held in New Delhi

It was attended by the seven Finance Ministers from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka and the Asian Development Bank as a supporting SASEC in this endeavor.

5. Lenin Moreno won Ecuador presidential election

Lenin Moreno has won the Presidential election after a tight contest with his right-wing opponent Guillermo Lasso. According to the country's electoral council, Moreno pocketed 51.16% of valid votes versus 48.84% for conservative challenger Guillermo Lasso, with 99.65% of votes counted

6. National Maritime Day has been observed today

This day, the country renews its abiding faith in the importance of maritime zone as well as sea route for an all-round development of the nation. The National Maritime Day was first celebrated on 5th April,1964. On this day in 1919, navigation history was created when the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd."SS Loyalty" journeyed to the United Kingdom.

7. Mamata Banerjee declared Jhargram as the 22nd district of West Bengal.

Jhargram has been formed by bifurcating West Midnapore, which has a population of more than 11.37 lakh. R. Arjun has been appointed the district magistrate while Abhisek Gupta has been made the police superintendent. Mamta Banerjee announced a budget of Rs 200 crore for the development of Jhargram.

8.Amazon India has launched a virtual training program Amazon Classroom

It is to help teach them the nuances of online selling. The program focusses on areas such as order processing, adding products and managing returns that are required to operate a successful online business.

9. ICICI Bank and Axis Bank sold Rs.1,800 crore loans to Edelweiss ARC.

The loans are taken by paper maker Ballarpur Industries Ltd. . It’s also the first time that loans have been sold to an asset reconstruction firm. Axis Bank sold loans of Rs.1,200 crore and ICICI Bank sold loans of Rs.600 crore.

10.India ranked fourth in ICC ODI rankings

India held on to the number four position in the latest ICC ODI rankings despite not playing the 50-over format for more than two months. The Virat Kohli-led India have 112 rating points. South Africa lead the chart with 119 rating points followed by Australia (118) and New Zealand (113).
