1. World Migratory Bird Day observed on 10th May. The theme of WMBD 2017 is “Their Future is Our Future – A Healthy Planet for Migratory Birds and People”. WMBD aims to highlight the interdependence of people and nature, and more specifically people and migratory birds, as they share the same planet and the same limited resources. |
2. ‘Moon Jae-in’ has sworn in as 19th President of the South Korea. Moon Jae-in is the former human rights lawyer and chief of staff to then-President Roh Moo-hyun. Earlier, Moon won about 41.1% of vote, defeating his rivals Hong Joon-pyo -24 % (conservative Liberty Korea Party) and Ahn Cheol-soo - 21.4% (centrist People's Party). Moon appointed South Jeolla Province Governor Lee Nak-yon as the Prime Minister. |
3. Railways to acquire EOTT system to run trains without guards. The Indian Railways will soon run 1000 trains without guards by installing sophisticated equipment. Now, Indian Railways will acquire 1000 End of Train Telemetry (EoTT) equipment for its container operations. The EoTT equipment is designed to do the guard's job by giving indication to the loco driver in case of parting of coaches or wagons from the rear side of the train |

Rajnath to inaugurate two important mobile apps; MHA Grievances Redressal App & BSFMyApp Home Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate two important mobile applications MHA Grievances Redressal App and BSFMyApp at New Delhi today. All the Paramilitary Force jawans and BSF personnel will be able to raise their problems on BSFMyApp. These problems will be settled at the level of the Force and Ministry. It is being tried that this app can not be hacked. Such an arrangement has been made in this app that the jawans download it and then verify it. |
5. DIPAM launches online investor facilitation platform. Keen on creating more awareness about the forthcoming disinvestment issues, the Finance Ministry has set up an Investor Facilitation Platform that will provide information about stocks of public sector units. Set up by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), the platform will be an interactive forum for all stakeholders, including investors, investment banks, law firms, public sector units and administrative ministries that are involved in stake sales. Developed and maintained by PRIME Database, all users will have to register on the platform, which will then be authorized by DIPAM. DIPAM is headed by Finance Minister of India Shri Arun Jaitley |
6. Venu Rajamony appointed India’s Ambassador to Netherlands. Rajamony will also be India’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation for Prevention of Chemical Weapons based in The Hague and cover the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration and other international organizations based in the Netherland. |
7. Supreme Court becomes paperless,digital court. The Supreme Court has taken its first step towards becoming a paperless, digital court. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the digital filing system at a function in New Delhi where the Integrated Case Management System will be connected with the Supreme Court website. The event will also be attended by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and judges of the apex court.The First Chief Justice of Supreme Court was Harilal Jekisundas Kania. |

10. India's Harpreet Singh wins bronze in Greco-Roman weight category. India's Harpreet Singh has won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman weight divisions on the opening day of Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi yesterday. Harpreet beat his rival Jun Ji Na of China in 80 kg category. Another Indian wrestler Gurpreet Singh lost his bronze medal bout 0-8 in just 38 seconds to Bin Yang of China. Gurpreet had earlier entered the bronze medal play-off round of Greco-Roman weight divisions in the 75 Kg category. |
