1. India celebrates National Technology Day on 11th May.

On 11th May 1998 India achieved a major technological breakthrough by successfully carrying out nuclear tests at Pokhran, Rajasthan. Also first, indigenous aircraft "Hansa-3" was test flown at Bangalore on this day and India also performed successful test firing of the Trishul missile on the same day. Technology Development Board, Ministry of Science and Technology is celebrating 19th National Technology Day, at Vigyan Bhawan. The theme of the function is “Technology for inclusive and sustainable growth”.

2. The 29th edition of Co-ordinated Patrol (CORPAT) between India-Indonesia commenced in Port Blair.

The Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Sutedi Senoputra has arrived at Haddo Wharf, Port Blair to mark the commencement of the IND–INDO CORPAT. During the stay at Port Blair from 09 – 12 May 2017, the visiting crew shall be engaged in interactions at various strata, including sports fixtures, ship visits, professional interactions and visits to places of historical and tourist interests. The closing ceremony of the CORPAT is scheduled at Belawan, Indonesia from 22 – 25 May 2017.

3. Sanjay Mitra appointed as Defence Secretary.

Mitra will take over as the secretary after the present incumbent, G Mohan Kumar, completes his tenure on May 24,2017 an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) decided Mitra would till then function as an Officer on Special Duty in the defence ministry.

4. ‘Ahmedabad’ will host the biggest ever International Yoga Day event on the 21st June 2017.

About 5 lakh people will be participate in the event. This will be a non-political programme in partnership with Gujarat government which will also involve various social organizations. GMDC ground and AES ground of Ahmedabad will jointly host the event.

5. Justice Mudgal elected head of FIFA Governance Committee.

Justice (Retd) Mukul Mudgal was today elected as head of FIFA's governance committee at the world football governing body's 67th Congress in Bahrain's capital city of Manama. Justice Mudgal's name was proposed by the FIFA Council yesterday for the vacant position of the governance chief after Miguel Maduro was reportedly 'fired' for his role in blocking Russian World Cup official Vitaly Mutko from retaining his seat on ruling council. The FIFA Council proposed to the 67th FIFA Congress a list of members of both chambers of the independent Ethics Committee, the Disciplinary Committee, the Appeal Committee, the Audit and Compliance Committee, and the Governance Committee. Each list of candidates was presented for election to the FIFA Congress today, each for a term of office of four years which would come into effect immediately.

6. I-T dept launches new facility to link Aadhaar with PAN.

The Income Tax department has launched a new e-facility to link a person's Aadhaar with the Permanent Account Number (PAN). The department's e-filing website has created a new link on its homepage making it easy to link the two unique identities of an individual.in case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name as compared to the actual data in Aadhaar, a One Time Password will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar. It said, taxpayers should ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly the same.

7. Punjab CM approves online transfer policy for teacher.

Singh also suggested posting of teachers, especially in primary schools, in their villages or surrounding areas to enable them to discharge their duties with dedication and honesty. He has also directed the inclusion of foreign languages such as Chinese, Japanese, French and German as optional subject in the school curriculum from class X onwards to enable students to complete globally.

8. Airtel-Micromax tie up offers 1-year free 4G service on Canvas 2 .

India’s top home-bred smartphone company will subsidise Airtel’s new and existing subscribers if they buy Canvas 2 launched on Thursday, executives from both companies said. Airtel subscribers buying the phone will get 1GB data a day and 600-minutes voice calls to another network per month free of charge, for a year.

9. Dena Bank has become the first lender to classify Videocon Industries as a bad loan.

With the default on payments, Dena Bank has declared Videocon Industries account as non-performing asset (NPA) in the fourth quarter ended March 2017. The total exposure of lenders to the electronic goods maker is pegged at approx Rs 40,000 crore. Large public and private sector banks and also some foreign banks have an exposure to Videocon. All that can come to roast in the next six months as other banks may also have to classify this account as NPA.

10. Shashank Manohar set to complete his full term as ICC Chairman.

According to International Cricket Council (ICC) Shashank Manohar (ICC chairman) will complete his term which runs till June 2018. Last March, Manohar had decided to step down from chairman's post citing personal reasons.
