2. Brazil has declared an end to a national emergency over the Zika virus. According to the Health Ministry there was decrease in cases of Zika throughout the country. The World Health Organization (WHO) lifted its own international emergency in November, even while saying the virus remained a threat. The disease is characterised by a fever, caused by the Zika virus and transmitted by the ‘Aedes aegypti’ mosquito. |
3. Chanda Kochhar receives Woodrow Wilson Award. ICICI Bank chief Chanda Kochhar has become the first Indian woman to be conferred with the prestigious Woodrow Wilson Award for Global Corporate Citizenship. She received the annual award which was instituted in 1998 by the prestigious Wilson Center to felicitate individuals whose actions and accomplishments either in their careers or through service. |
4. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Radha Mohan Singh launched e-Krishi Samvad. e-Krishi Samvad an online interface at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. It is an internet-based interface and is a unique platform that will provide direct and effective solutions to the problems faced by farmers and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. |
5. Bengaluru has been named the world’s most affordable tech city in the new Savills Tech Cities Index 2017. The Indian technology hub is the most affordable out of 22 cities that were graded on different parameters. Overall, Bengaluru ranks 20th among tech cities in the world while Austin topped the list, followed by San Francisco and New York. But when it comes to the cost of living index, Bengaluru tops the charts with a weekly residential rent for tech employees and household. |
6. Nitin Gadkari has launched the NHAI Masala Bond at the London Stock Exchange, UK. The NHAI witnessed an overwhelming response from a wide range of investors, some of them were first-timers to participate in a Masala Bond market. The initially benchmarked issue of Rs. 1,500 crore was upsized to Rs. 3,000 crore at a price yielding 7.30% annually in view of the highly positive response from the investor market. According to the London Stock Exchange, there are 38 Masala Bonds currently in the market, raising around 5 billion dollars. |
7. Uttar Pradesh Dy CM Dinesh Sharma appointed leader of legislative council. In Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma has been made the Leader of the House in the State Legislative Council. It has been notified in a press release of council that Mr. Sharma would be the Leader of the House of the Legislative Council. At present Mr. Sharma is not a member of either House. Former minister and SP leader Ahmad Hasan has already been appointed leader of opposition in the house. |
8.According to Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa , India will clock over 7.5% growth in 2017-18. Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa said in New York that India can clock a GDP growth of over 7(point)5 per cent in the fiscal 2017-18 and the country's macro-economic fundamentals, including fiscal deficit and inflation, are all very sound. Lavasa, who is visiting the US to attend a global investors conference, said that while there has been a general climate of economic slowdown in the last few years across the world, India has managed to maintain a healthy rate of growth. |
9. SoftBank and Foxconn are bringing India some of world's cheapest solar power. Companies led by SoftBank Group Corp. of Japan and Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Co. Ltd. are bringing India some of the cheapest solar power in the world, helping Prime Minister Narendra Modi reach his ambitious clean-energy goals. In two auctions this week for renewable-energy power-purchase contracts, bids from companies to supply clean electricity slid to as little as 3.8 cents a kilowatt-hour. The record is sharply below the previous bids around 5 cents and within striking distance of the lowest recorded bids in the United Arab Emirates and Chile as of quarter three of 2016 |
10. Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Divya Kakran win silver in the Asian Wrestling Championship in their respective categories. Three Indian women wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Divya Kakran bagged silver medals in their respective categories in the Asian Wrestling Championship in New Delhi today after losing out their final bouts. Rio Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik lost her final bout against Japan’s Risako Kawai in 60kg category. Sakshi wrestled for the first time in women's 60kg category after jumping up the weight division from 58kg. Vinesh Phogat lost the final in women's 55kg category and Divya Kakran in 69 Kg to settle with silver medals. |
