1. The Narmada Seva Mission launched by Modi in Madhya pradesh. Narmada river captured the attention of the nation when it became the center of a decades-long struggle to stop the raising of the Sardar Sarovar Dam. River conservation has been in sharp focus since the new government came to power. Narmada Seva Yatra was launched on December 11, 2016 projecting it as the world’s “biggest river conservation campaign with public participation.” It was concluded on 15th May 2017. |
2. Mt Lhotse records first successful ascent after three years. The fourth highest mountain in the world Mt Lhotse has recorded the first summit in 3 years. According to reports Indian climber Debasish Biswas and a woman climber from New Zealand successfully climbed 8516 meter high Mt Lhotse today after a team of Sherpas fixed the route to summit. John Snorri Sigursson (Iceland) and Cian O Brolchain (Ireland) also climbed at Mt. Lhotse. John and Cian became the first mountaineer from their respective countries to summit Mt Lhotse. An avalanche above the icefall section in 2014 and the devastating earthquakes in 2015 restricted the world climbers from making summit on Mt Lhotse. |

4. According to FICCI, India’s GDP projected to grow 7.4% in 2017-18. In a survey conducted during March and April 2017, FICCI predicted India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth will be around 7.4% for fiscal 2017-18, with a minimum and maximum level of 7% and 7.6% respectively. Agricultural sector is estimated to clock 3.5% growth in 2017-18, the pick-up in overall GDP growth will also be supported by an improvement in industry and services sector growth. The industry and services sector are expected to grow by 6.9% and 8.4% respectively in 2017-18. |
5.Aravind Kumar Rengan has been awarded the prestigious Indian National Science Academy (INSA) medal in the Young Scientist category for 2017. Assistant Professor in Department of Biomedical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology – Hyderabad (IIT-H) .His services in devising a novel way of nano-delivery using liposomes and gold nanoparticles were recognized. The INSA Young Scientist Medal award carries a bronze medal and a cash prize of Rs25,000. |

7. Japanese tennis player Mitsuhashi gets life ban for match-fixing. Japanese player Junn Mitsuhashi has been banned for life following an investigation into match-fixing. The Tennis Integrity Unit announced today that he has also been fined 50,000 US Dollars after being found to have made corrupt approaches to other players and to have placed bets on matches. The ban applies with immediate affect and means Mitsuhashi, 27, cannot compete in, or attend, any tournament or event organised or sanctioned by the governing bodies of the sport. |
8. Arjun Maini became first Indian to win a GP3 race. The 19-year old scored his first win in two years while finishing six seconds ahead of Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci and teammate Alessio Lorandi of Italy. |
9. Deepti Sharma & Poonam Raut has become the world’s first cricket pair to make 300 runs opening-wicket partnership in ODI cricket. They scored 320 runs in 45.3 overs. Earlier, the best partnership for the first wicket in men’s cricket was 286 runs scored by Sri Lanka’s Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya in 2006 (against England). Deepti Sharma’s 188 runs is now the second highest score in women’s one-day international (ODI) only behind Belinda Clarks (Australia) unbeaten 229 in 1997 (against Denmark). |
10. Lewis Hamilton wins 2017 Spanish Grand Prix British Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) has won the 2017 Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. It was Hamilton’s second win of the season. |
