1. The world’s smallest satellite named 'KalamSat' will be launched by NASA. it will be the first time ever that it would be piloting an experiment by an Indian student. Developed by Rifath Sharook, an 18-year-old boy, from Tamil Nadu’s Pallapatti town, KalamSat weighs only 64 grams. ‘KalamSat’, named after India's nuclear scientist and former President, APJ Abdul Kalam, will be launched from a Nasa facility in Wallops Island. |
2. 14th GST Council Meet started at Srinagar. The 14th GST Council meeting has begun under the chairmanship of Union Finance Minister ‘Arun Jaitley’ at Sher e Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar) Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting will take a final call on the new taxation regime and finalise the rates of different commodities and services. Around 150 dignitaries including Finance Ministers and Finance Secretaries of 29 States and three UTs are attending to finalise the roll out the GST. |
3. Country's first ornamental fish park to come up at Chennai. India's first Aquatic Rainbow Technology Park, an ultra modern exclusive facility for ornamental fish equipped with multi-species hatchery and live feed culture units, will become operational at Chennai in coming three months. |
4. Shrinivas Kulkarni wins Dan David prize in field of astronomy. The honour will be conferred at a festive awards ceremony in Tel Avis, Isreal. He joins other prominent Indian laureates including author Amitav Ghosh, music conductor Zubin Mehta and renowned chemist CNR Rao. |
5. Centre sanctions rupees 1,793 crore for eight National Highway in Andhra pradesh. This was informed by the officials to the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu yesterday who held a review meeting at Velagapudi. Eight roads covering 1249 km were declared as the National Highways in the State this year covering Anantapur, Guntur, West Godavari, East Godavari, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts. |
6. Mukesh Ambani tops Forbes list of 'Global Game Changers' for bringing internet to masses. The American magazine referred to the Ambani-led Reliance Jio mobile network's efforts to spread internet penetration in India. The list includes home appliances company Dyson's founder James Dyson, US investment management company BlackRock co-founder Larry Fink, Saudi Arabia's Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman etc. |
7. India and Tajikistan signed agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in Customs Matters. The agreement will help in the availability of relevant information for the prevention and investigation of Customs offenses. The Cabinet also gave its approval for the Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to Prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting. |
8. India will be hosting the Annual Meetings of the AfDB Group for the first time. the meeting will be held from 22nd to 26th May at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Mr Das said, the annual meetings are the largest event of the Bank, which would witness about 3000 delegates from 81 member countries from across the world. He said, during the course of the event, the Board of Governors of the Bank will meet to dwell upon the major developmental challenges facing the African countries and the ways to achieve an inclusive and sustainable growth. |
9. 15th National Meeting of the State Commissioners for Persons with Disabilities inaugrated in New delhi. It is inaugrated by Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment to review Implementation of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of rights and Full Participation) Act-1995 |
10. India retained its top position in the ICC Test rankings with 123 points. India has gained one ranking point while South Africa has leaped from 109 to 117 points to reduce the gap to six points with the number one side. 23 points seperate India and Australia who are at the third position. England has stayed in fourth position followed by New Zealand at 5th, Pakistan at 6th, Sri Lanka at 7th, West Indies at 8th and Bangladesh at 9th. |
