1. Coal Minister Piyush Goyal launched mobile app " Saral Eindhan Vitaran App (SEVA) in New Delhi. The unique monitoring app, for quick tracking of coal dispatch, is a result of joint initiative of Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited. Briefing media after launching the initiative, Mr Goyal said the aim of the app is to provide complete information of departmental functioning and transparency to the public. |
2. A United Nations-backed panel has released a draft treaty banning the possession and use of all nuclear weapons. The draft treaty is the culmination of a sustained campaign, supported by more than 130 non-nuclear states, to prohibit nuclear weapons and persuade nuclear-armed states to disarm. Nine countries that are known to possess nuclear weapons are- the US, UK, Russia, China, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel has not supported the draft plan. The draft treaty obliges state parties to never under any circumstances develop, produce, manufacture, otherwise acquire, possess or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices. |

4. India becomes second largest steel producer in the world. According to the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) data (May 2017), India overtook Japan to become the second-largest steel producer in the world in 2016. In 2016, India’s stainless steel production rose to 3.32 million tons. The data showed a growth of about 9% over 3.0 million tons achieved in 2015. In 2016, the top producer of the steel of the world is China. |
5. 7-member Committee on Scouts and Guides under the chairmanship of ‘Harsh Malhotra’ has submitted its report to the Sports Minister Vijay Goel. The Committee has suggested mandatory revamp of the Bharat Scout & Guides and Hindustan Scouts & Guides. The Committee has also found number of irregularities and anomalies in the management and financial management. It has further recommended for a permanent monitoring Committee to periodically assess the activities of both the organisations. |
6. HDFC Life announced the launch of an artificial intelligence-based application 'SPOK'. It can automatically read, understand, categorise, prioritise and respond to customer emails sent to the private insurer. 'SPOK', an insurance email bot, can read customer queries within milliseconds and respond to them. This automation initiative will enable the company to respond to user queries faster, more efficiently and consistently, HDFC Life stated. The deployment of SPOK will improve customer experience, while providing the support staff with the bandwidth to focus on customer satisfaction. |

It has Designed and managed by Geojit, the trading platform will give its users absolute control over their investments with timely research inputs to make sound investment decisions. The features of the Selfie Trading Platform are a uniform experience across multiple platforms and devices and an advanced charting platform that enables users to trade directly from charts, among others.The live portfolio of investments helps users to arrive at quick decisions. |

According to Dun and Bradstreet report , economic growth at 6.6 per cent for the quarter ended March 2017. normal monsoon is expected to provide the requisite boost to demand, while transition to GST regime is likely to create some disruption and impact the short-term sales volume across businesses. According to D&B, the economic growth, as measured by GVA (gross value added), is likely to grow by 6.6 per cent for the fourth quarter of 2016-17, as compared to the same period year-ago. |
10. The world's largest aircraft Airlander 10 has successfully completed a test flight. The hybrid aircraft dubbed the Airlander 10 combines technology from airplanes, helicopters and airships. It is designed to fly at altitudes of 6,100 meters for up to five days. with a length of 92 metres, it is the largest aircraft currently flying. On May 10th, the Airlander 10 flew for a total of 180 minutes to test the aircraft's handling, improved landing technology |
