1. AIIMS becomes India's first public hospital for eye tumors.

The facility is a form of local radiation delivered to the eye through a radioactive device which is attached to the eye for a temporary period of time. The move will benefit children suffering from retinoblastoma, which is a form of eye cancer, and adults suffering from ocular melanoma.

2. 'Solar Calculator' for the computation of solar energy potential has been developed by ISRO.

It is a very useful tool for installation of PV solar panels for tapping solar energy. The App provides monthly/yearly solar potential (in kWh/m2) and minimum/maximum temperature at any location.

3. World Day for Safety and Health at Work observed on 28th April.

The day is observed mainly by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as an awareness-raising campaign to raise awareness of safety in the workplace.

4. El Salvador becomes 1st country in world to ban metals mining.

The new law entered into force after being signed by President Salvador ‘Sanchez Ceren’. It will protect poor rural communities threatened by proposed mining projects.

5. Bhubaneswar becomes 1st Indian city to win Pierre L’enfant Awards-2017.

The smart city ‘Bhubaneswar’ has received this award for good and advanced town planning and engaging its residents in the planning process.

6. India and Cyprus have signed four agreements .

The areas in which the MoUs have been exchanged are Air Services, Agriculture, Merchant Shipping and Culture Education. Mr. Anastasiades arrived in New Delhi recently on the second leg of his five-day visit to India.

7. Shah Rukh Khan becomes first Indian actor to deliver Ted Talk in Canada.

He also collaborated with TED to host the Hindi version of the famous talk show. Earlier, Shah Rukh has also delivered some motivational and inspirational speeches, when he was conferred with an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburg and Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad.

8. India's first book village to come up in Maharashtra's Bhilar.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra ‘Devendra Fadnavis’ will inaugurate the initiative pustakanche gaon on 4th May 2017. The concept is inspired by Britain's Hay-on-Wye a Welsh town known for its bookstore and literature festivals. Around 15,000 books (in Marathi) would be made available in the village premises.

9. Mann Kaur becomes world’s oldest person to complete Auckland Sky Walk.

Athlete Mann Kaur (101-year) has become the oldest person to sky walk around Auckland’s famous landmark Sky Tower and set a new world record on the field. Kaur stepped out 192 meters above 'Auckland city' to achieve the feat.

10. Govt launches Test & Treat policy for HIV patients.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda has launched the Test and Treat policy for providing treatment to patients suffering from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Launching the policy at a function in New Delhi, Mr. Nadda stated, under it, the government will provide Anti- Retroviral Therapy (ART) treatment to the patients free of cost.
