1. DRDO’s new Aeronautical Test Range inaugrated in Karnataka by Arun Jaitley.

The ATR is a facility under the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) which works on a range of UAVs (unmanned air vehicles). It will be an integrated test center for the DRDO’s cluster of aeronautical laboratories, most of them based in Bengaluru.

2. Vadodara made a new Guinness world record for the maximum number of people sweeping a single venue.

Around 5,058 residents of Vadodara along with the Municipal Corporation came together to sweep the bridge that connects Akota with Dandia Bazaar over a one-kilometre stretch. The large-scale event saw about 50,000 people in attendance as they cheered and rendered their support to the participants. This programme was organised for celebrating the city's inclusion in ten cleanest cities.

3. China launched a national satellite navigation and positioning system.

It will provide positioning service to transportation, emergency medical rescue and city planning and management. It is the largest in the country and boasts the widest coverage. The system consists of 2,700 base stations, a national database centre and 30 provincial level database centers.

4.Priyanka Chopra will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award.

It is for being an international icon. Star will be given the award under the newly introduced 'Internationally Acclaimed Actress' category at a ceremony. The board of trustees for Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards include Johny Lever, Pahlaj Nihalani, Mithun Chakraborty and TP Agrawal. The award ceremony will be held on June 1, 2017 in Mumbai.

5. Prasar Bharati signs MoU with Morocco's SNRT.

Government-run Prasar Bharati has got into an agreement with Morocco's Societe Nationale de Radiodiffusion et de Television (SNRT) to step up cooperation in the broadcasting sector. The MoU was signed during the fifth India Morocco Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in Rabat, Morocco's capital.

6.Satyabrata Rout gets Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar.

Satyabrata Rout, a professor from the Department of Theatre Arts, S N School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar for the year 2016.

7. 'Najma Heptulla' has appointed the first woman chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia university.

She will succeed Lieutenant General (Retd.) MA Zaki. Heptulla is a five-time member of the Rajya Sabha and served as the Deputy Chairman of the House for sixteen years.

8. First women's TV channel named Zan TV has launched in Afghanistan.

It is being seen a ground- breaking step for women's rights, in a male dominated country. The station is run on a shoestring budget using low-cost digital technology in a basic studio in the Kabul, Afghanistan.

9. Dailong village in Manipur declared Biodiversity Heritage Site.

Dailong village, covering an area of 11.35 sq km, has been declared as Biodiversity Heritage Site under Section 37(1) of Biological Diversity Act, 2002. The declaration was made after the recommendation of Manipur Biodiversity Board, the state government has stated in the notification.

10. Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) inks MoU with ISRO for fodder acreage estimation.

GCMMF markets its products under the brand name of 'Amul'. Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), ISRO will help in identification between food crops and fodder crops at village level and also locate suitable areas of current fallows and cultivable wastelands at village level for green fodder cultivation.
