1. Dubai has become the first city in the world to get its own Microsoft font. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, launched the Dubai Font recently. The font, now available to more than 100 million users of Microsoft Office 365 around the world, is the first font to be created by a city and named after it. |
2. Andhra Pradesh CM ‘Chandrababu Naidu’ bags USIBC award. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister ‘Chandrababu Naidu’ has been selected for the 'Transformative Chief Minister Award' in recognition for his role in advancing the US-India partnership at the state level. The award would be presented at the USIBC West Coast Summit in the Silicon Valley on 8th May 2017. |
3. Shobana Kamineni is the new CII President. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has recently announced new office-bearers for the year 2017-18. Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., has assumed office as the new President of CII. She is the first woman President of CII. She takes over from D. Naushad Forbes, Co-Chairman, Forbes Marshall Limited. |
4. Indian Army successfully test-fires Brahmos land-attack missile. The land-to-land configuration of Brahmos missile was launched from a mobile autonomous launcher (MAL). The test firing of the block-III version of the missile demonstrated the weapon's unmatched lethality of hitting the centre of a designated target with "bull's eye" precision |
5. According to UN report ,India expected to achieve 7.1% growth this year. A UN report has said, India is expected to achieve 7 point 1 per cent growth this year as re-monetisation restores consumption, and infrastructure spending increases.India's growth would edge up to 7.5 per cent next year. |
6. Prakash Javadekar launched the Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan to create 'walls of heroes'. Prakash Javadekar launched 'Students for soldiers- a nationwide Vidya-Veerta Abhiyan' to encourage Universities to display portraits of Param Veer Chakra-decorated soldiers. The aim of this Abhiyan is to instill a sense of patriotism and nationalism among students. |
7. Madhya Pradesh became the first state to announce shifting of its financial year format to January-December. State Public Relations Minister Narottam Mishra told reporters after the cabinet meeting that state government would try to finish the current budget proceedings by December this year. The decision comes close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi making a pitch for shifting the fiscal year to January-December period during NITI Aayog's governing council meet in the national capital last month. |

9. Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya launched two schemes “One IP- Two Dispensaries” and “Aadhaar based Online Claim Submission” Schemes. Under One IP- Two Dispensaries scheme has given an option to an Insured Person (IP) to choose two dispensaries, one for self and another for the family through an employer. Under Aadhaar based Online Claim Submission scheme all EPF Members who have activated their Universal Account Number (UAN) and seeded their KYC (Aadhaar) with EPFO will be able to apply for PF final settlement, Pension withdrawal benefit and PF part withdrawal from their UAN Interface directly. |
10. India ranked 3rd & 4th in ODI & T20 ICC team rankings respectively. India are now on 118 points, three behind second placed England and third placed Pakistan -- both of whom are on 121 points each. Pakistan joined England on 121 after earning five points. However, they are a rank behind England by a fraction of a point. England climbed up three places after gaining seven points but are still four points behind table-topper New Zealand, who are on 125 points despite dropping two points. South Africa lost two places to be at fifth spot afterconceding six points, but are a point ahead of Australia. |
