4. Cabinet gives approval to SAMPADA scheme and National Steel Policy. Union Cabinet today gave its nod to the National Steel Policy-2017 which targets to achieve 300 Million Tonnes of steel making capacity by 2030 with an additional investment of ten lakh crore rupees. The policy is aimed at increasing consumption of steel in major segments like infrastructure, automobiles and housing. It enshrines the long term vision of the government to give impetus to the steel sector. The Cabinet also approved a new scheme SAMPADA for food processing sector to integrate current and new schemes aimed at reducing food wastage and doubling farmers' income. |
5. Assam govt to provide Rs 5000 each to divyangs for their development. The Assam government will provide five thousand rupees each to five lakh divyangs for their development. Participating in an AIR talk show, Deputy Director of Social Welfare department Naba Kumar Tamuli said that a survey is being conducted to know the exact number of divyangs in the state. |
6. 4th National Standards Conclave held in New Delhi. It was organized by Department of Commerce, Government of India. The objective of the two-day Conclave was to bring awareness and prepare Industries, Central Government Ministries, State Governments, regulatory/standards-setting and conformity assessment bodies on the growing importance of “Standards” in the changing scenario of global trade. The conclave had 9 sessions in these 2 days. |
7. Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu to sign an agreement with California, Iowa and Illinois as sister states of AP Chandra babu Naidu, who is leaving for US on a seven day visit on Thursday with a delegation of his cabinet colleagues and senior officials, will meet the leaders in the fields of information technology, financial technology, agriculture and education, among others. In all, the AP high level delegation will interact with around 300 CEOs to explore business and technology transfer opportunities in the areas of IT, fintech agricultural research, innovation and smart technologies, among others with California, Iowa and Illinois. Naidu, who will receive 2017 US-India Business Council’s ‘Transformative Chief Minister Award’ in California on May 8. |

India’s Second Tallest Flag Pole inaugurated in Kolhapur Maharashtra Chief Minister ‘Devendra Fadnavis’ has inaugurated the India’s second tallest flag pole (303 feet high) in Kolhapur (Maharashtra). The pole has been constructed in the Police training academy garden as a part of the Kolhapur beautification project. The country’s tallest flag pole (360 feet high) is located at the Indo-Pak Attari Border. |
10. Sunil Chhetri wins Hero of I-League 2016-17 Award. Indian professional footballer Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC) has won the coveted Hero of the League 2016-17 Award. He won the most number of votes cast by coaches and the captains of the I-League teams. Sunil Chhetri had scored seven goals for fourth-place finishers Bengaluru FC. Aizawl FC coach Khalid Jamil has chosen as the Coach of the Year. |
