1. International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the globe on 21st June. The theme of this year is "Yoga for Health", to highlight the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving an equilibrium between mind and body. The main function in India was held in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed Yoga at Ramabai Ambedkar Ground Wednesday morning with more than 55,000 people. Addressing the gathering, Mr Modi appealed people to make Yoga a part of their lives. He said, as a very small use of salt makes the food tasty, small practices of Yoga helps a person to be healthy and away from diseases. The Prime Minister said, yoga has connected the world with India. |
2. Punjab Government has announced free education for girls in government schools and colleges from Nursery to Ph.D. This is the major step towards women empowerment by Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh. Reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies has already been increased by the government from 33 per cent to 50 per cent. The CM also announced free Wi-FI for 13,000 primary schools and all 48 government colleges. |

Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune selected as the first recipient of the Prime Minister's Yoga Award. the Prime Minister's Award for outstanding contribution to promotion and development of Yoga. The has worked to spread Yoga, internationally, over a period of four decades. The Institute has published books on Yoga and these have been translated into multiple languages. There are thousands of Iyengar Yoga teachers popularising and propagating yoga across the world. |
4. Saudi king names son Mohammed bin Salman as crown prince. This completes a gradual removal of powers from the previous prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who has been fired. According to a royal decree issued by the official Saudi Press Agency, Mohammed bin Salman, was also named deputy Prime Minister, and maintains his post as minister of defence. |

Hike Messenger partners with Yes Bank to launch UPI-based wallet With Unified Payments Interface support enabled in Hike 5.0, users can now do free and instant bank-to-bank transfers with their friends. The feature works even if your friends aren't on Hike. For those who don’t actively use a bank account, Hike still allows them to send and receive money with your friends through the Wallet. The app now also allows users to recharge their phones and pay their postpaid bill right from inside Hike. |
6. The Guwahati International Documentary Film Festival has begun in Guwahati . Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit has inaugurated the festival in presence of several eminent film personalities. In his address, Mr. Purohit said that he would put best effort to uplift the infrastructure of the film society of Assam. Mr Purohit invited film makers to explore the beauty of the North East. The event is being organized by Films Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Regional Film and Television Institute. |
7. Meghalaya government has signed two MoUs with SBI for migrating government transactions to digital mode. With the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax(GST), these MoUs are expected to give dealers and other citizens the desired platform for conducting financial transactions with the state government on a digital platform. |
8. India & Portugal sign agreement to promote Cooperation in the Field of Archives. The National Archives of Portugal handed over to the National Archives of India digital copies of 62 volumes of the collection known as ‘Moncoes do Reino’. |
9. Garbage bins have re-introduced in Bengaluru after 17 yrs. The Karnataka government has re-introduced garbage bins in Bengaluru after seventeen years. Bengaluru's municipal corporation will install 2,232 pairs of bins for wet and dry waste across the city at a cost of over ₹4 crore. Earlier, Bengaluru followed a dustbin-free policy and garbage was collected by municipal workers from door-to-door. |
10. Mumbai named the most expensive city in India for expatriates. Mumbai is the most expensive Indian city for expatriates and is ranked above major cities like Paris, Canberra, Seattle and Vienna, a report by consulting firm Mercer revealed. Globally, Mumbai was ranked 57 on the list while New Delhi was ranked 99. Further, the capital of Angola, Luanda was named the costliest city globally for expats followed by Hong Kong. |
