1. Odisha Government has approved 53 urban projects under AMRUT. Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) with a total investment of 5 hundred 38 crore rupees. These new projects would be carried out in nine cities including Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, and Balasore, with fund sharing pattern of 50:50 ( Centre and state government). |
2. Bengaluru has become the country's first city to deliver fuel at one's door step. Mypetrolpump, a one-year-old startup, conducted a soft launch with three delivery vehicles -each with a capacity of 950 litres. Diesel is delivered at the day's running price with a fixed delivery charge. For up to 100 litres, the one-time delivery charge is Rs.99. Above 100 litres, one needs to pay the diesel price plus one additional rupee per litre. |
3. Department of Science and Technology has launched VAJRA scheme to attract Indian scientists abroad. Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty (VAJRA) scheme in a bid to bring together the Indian scientists abroad and India-based researchers for conducting joint researches in India. The web portal of VAJRA was launched by Union Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan. The motive behind the launching of VAJRA scheme is to bring the best of the world to India and conduct research in the country itself. It aims to convert brain-drain into brain-gain. |
4. Vladimir Voronkov appointed as Under-Secretary-General of UN Counter-Terrorism Office. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Vladimir Ivanovich Voronkov of the Russian Federation as Under-Secretary-General of the newly created United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office. The office is established under the General Assembly resolution 71/291 on 15 June 2017. |
5. ISRO has launched rocket PSLV C-38 carrying earth observation satellite Cartosat-2 Series and 30 other nano-satellites into their orbits. The highly reliable Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikotta at 9.29 am. It put the main payload in a 505-km orbit within 16 minutes 43 seconds after its launch. This was the 40th flight of PSLV. Of the 30 nano-satellites, 29 are from 14 different countries including France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain and the United States. The other is a domestic payload of a private educational institution. |
6. Urban Development Ministry has launched a City Liveability Index to measure the quality of life in 116 major cities . 116 major cities including smart cities, capital cities and cities with a population of above 10 lakh. It will enable cities to know where they stand in terms of quality of life and the interventions required for improvement. Launching the initiative at a National Workshop on Urban Transformation in New Delhi, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said cities are now moving on a well planned infrastructure development under new urban missions. |
7. Russia has fired cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea on positions of the Islamic State group in Syria. In a statement, the Defence Ministry today said two frigates and a submarine launched six cruise missiles on IS installations in Syria’s Hama province, destroying command centers and ammunition depots. Russia is one of the strongest backers of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government and has been carrying out airstrikes in the country since September 2015. |
8. Manipur Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen has launched a women helpline- 181 for providing 24X7 services to needy women. Speaking on the occasion of the launch at Imphal, the Minister said that women from any part of the state can seek help on medical purposes including ambulance, police and legal services, one stop centre facility etc by dialing the toll free number. She further said, the helpline will also provide information about different women welfare schemes of the government and protection of their rights. The Minister also said that state government is committed to take stringent action against those involved in the crime against women. |

Manappuram Finance has appointed Jeevandas Narayan as MD of Manappuram Home Finance Manappuram Finance has appointed 'Jeevandas Narayan' as the Managing Director (MD) and 'Subhash Samant' as CEO of its fully-owned home loans subsidiary, Manappuram Home Finance Pvt. Ltd. Earlier, Mr. Narayan was the managing director of the erstwhile State Bank of Travancore until retirement in 2016. |
10. 'Trump Sulabh Village' has inaugurated in Haryana. Toilet charity Sulabh International has renamed a Haryana village as 'Trump Sulabh Village' after US President Donald Trump. The charity's founder said that naming the village after Trump was a stunt aimed at drawing more attention to their efforts to improve sanitation across India. Notably, the new name of the village is not official and will not appear on maps. |
