1. J&K Governor N N Vohra has appointed the president of the India International Centre (IIC).

India International Centre (IIC) is one of the premier cultural institutions in the country. The appointment was made after eminent jurist Soli Sorabjee quit the presidential post.

2. Dangal has become the first Indian movie to earn Rs2,000 crore worldwide.

Recently, Dangal also created the record of being the fifth highest-grossing non-English film ever. Based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, the sports drama film is also the highest grossing Indian film in China. According to a report by Forbes, on its 53rd day of release in China, Dangal made Rs 2.5 crore ($390,000) at the China box office taking its worldwide total to Rs 2000 crore.

3. The World Bank has cleared a USD 250-million loan for Skill India Mission.

The loan is for making Indian youth more employable through reskilling, in a move that is seen to aid the Skill India Mission. The multi-lateral lender is keen to support the Indian government in its efforts to better equip the young workforce with employable skills. Under the program, adults in 15-59 years of age, underemployed or unemployed, will get the skill training.

4. Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has launched Digital MSME Scheme.

Digital MSME Scheme to further boost Ministry's efforts towards making Digital India Mission successful. This scheme revolves around Cloud Computing which is emerging as a cost effective and viable alternative in comparison to in-house Infrastructure installed by MSMEs. In this scheme MSMEs can use the internet to access common as well as tailor-made IT infrastructure including software for managing their business processes. The scheme was launched by Mr. Kalraj Mishra, Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises at a function in New Delhi.

5. Uttar Pradesh has signed an agreement with ADB for a loan of 1950 crore rupees for strengthening of roads.

This Agreement was signed at Lucknow in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and ADB President Takehiko Nakao. As per agreement, ADB will provide the loan amount for Uttar Pradesh Main District Roads Development Project of 2782 crore rupees cost. State government will spend 832 crore rupees form its own resources on the project. Project is scheduled to be completed by 2024 and ADB will provide the loan for the period of 25 years on the interest rate of 2 percent.

6. Vidya Balan named as the ambassador of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM).

Vidya Balan is returning as ambassador of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), which will be held this year August 10-22, showcasing over 60 films. She is happy about women representation at the gala.

7. SpiceJet is world's top airline stock with 124% gain in 2017.

SpiceJet's stock has surged 127% this year, making it the world’s best-performing airline stock, according to Bloomberg. The stock has gained over 800% since SpiceJet was forced to ground its entire fleet over inability to pay $2.2 million in fuel bills in 2014. The rise has been attributed to Co-founder Ajay Singh injecting capital and cutting loss-making routes.

8. PM Modi has launched India-Portugal International Startup Hub.

PM Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Portugal, launched the India-Portugal International Startup Hub with his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa. It will strengthen the connection between the startup ecosystem of the two countries and will be accessible through an app. It will also give information on subjects including government initiatives, policy, tax system and visa process.

9. Pakistani spinner Imad Wasim becomes no. 1 T20I bowler.

Pakistani spinner Imad Wasim became the top-ranked T20I bowler after the refreshed rankings were released by ICC on Monday. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah occupies the second spot, while Imran Tahir and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan are in the third and fourth spots respectively. Notably, Indian captain Virat Kohli retained the top spot in the T20I batsmen rankings.

10. The Indian men's & women's throwball teams bagged a gold medal each in the World Games, held at Kathmandu.

The women's team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 15-13, 15 -12 in a nail-biting final to clinch the title, while the men posted a 15-13, 15-12 win over Bangladesh in their final match to finish at the top of the podium. This was the first time that the Indian teams had participated in these Games, which took place from June 15 to 18.
