1. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appointed Social Democrat Mihai Tudose as the Prime Minister.

Mihai Tudose, the outgoing economy minister of Romania, has been appointed as prime minister, days after the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) removed its own government following an internal power row.

2. Priyanka Chopra has appointed as the ambassador for government’s flagship Skill India campaign.

Actress Priyanka Chopra has been appointed as the ambassador for government’s flagship Skill India campaign, with the National Skill Development Corporation. Priyanka will use her celebrity status to motivate youngsters to hone their abilities through a media campaign.

3. Google fined record 2.42 billion euros by European Commission

The European Commission has fined Google 2.42 billion euro (USD 2.7 Billion) for breaching the anti-trust rules by illegally favoring its shopping service. The European Commission regulates EU competition rules. Google has abused its market dominance by offering an illegal advantage to its another product, its comparison shopping service.

4. India's largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust at Mumbai hit by ransomware

A JNPT official told the news agency that they have been informed that the operations at Gateway Terminals India, GTI, have come to a standstill due to the malware attack. They are trying to work manually. AP Moller-Maersk (APM), one of the affected entities globally, operates the GTI at JNPT. APM Terminals, a subsidiary of shipping giant Maersk, confirmed the cyber attack, however an APM spokesperson refused to comment.

5. Election Commission is collaborating with Facebook to launch first nationwide “Voter Registration Reminder” on 1st July.

With over 180 million people of the country on Facebook, the ‘Register Now’ button is designed to encourage citizens to register themselves with the Commission. A notification of the “voter registration reminder” will be sent to people on Facebook who are eligible to vote. The reminder will be sent out in 13 languages. These languages are English, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu, Assamese, Marathi and Oriya.

6. PM Modi returns Delhi after three nations visit to Portugal, US and Netherlands.

During his visit, India signed eleven MoUs for cooperation with Portugal and three with the Netherlands. In USA, Mr Modi and President Donald Trump comprehensively reviewed bilateral relations and laid down the future road map. Our correspondent covering the visit of the Prime Minister reported that the Prime Minister’s visit focused primarily on four broad areas: one, furthering India’s strategic interests, two- projection of India as a country with fast track reforms coupled with high economic growth making it a strong opportunity for investment; third- seek collaborations in areas like skill development, knowledge based society and frontier areas of science and technology and four- reviving bonds with Indian Diaspora and seek their contribution for the development of India of their dreams.

7. China's Navy has launched its biggest new generation destroyer weighing 10,000 tonnes.

The destroyer is as part of a massive expansion to become a global naval power. The Navy's new destroyer, a domestically designed and produced vessel, was launched at the Jiangnan Shipyard, Shanghai.

8. Sharjah has been declared the “World Book Capital” by UNESCO for the year 2019.

It is preceded by Conakry in 2017 and Athens in 2018. The honour is recognition of the Emirate’s pioneering role in supporting and expanding the local and regional publishing industries, promoting reading to become an intrinsic cultural practice, as well as embracing inter-cultural, knowledge-based dialogue.

9. AP CM Chandrababu Naidu has announced establishment of MSME Corporation by earmarking Rs 100 cr.

The MSME Corporation office will be constructed at Amaravati in 15 acres of land. Speaking after unveiling MSME development corporation logo and website, at a workshop, organised on the occasion of International MSME Day in Vijayawada, yesterday, the Chief Minister said that Industrial Promotion Councils (IPCs) are being set up, headed by a Minister, in all the districts and MSME Bhavans would be constructed in all the 175 Assembly constituencies.

10. Lasith Malinga suspended for one year, fined for media remarks.

Lasith Malinga was suspended for one year after the fast bowler pleaded guilty to a breach of contract by speaking to the media without permission. Sri Lankan Cricket, SLC, board in Colombo yesterday said that Malinga will also be fined 50 percent of the match fee of his next one-day international.
