1. Odisha has become the first state in the country to have a blood bank for the cattle. According to the Vice-chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Surendra Nath Pasupalak, it is the first of its kind blood bank established on the premises of OUAT at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.25 crore. |
2. India has Signed Loan Agreement of USD 35 Million with the World Bank. An agreement for IBRD Credit of USD 35 Million from World Bank for “Assam State Public Financial Institutional Reforms Project” was signed in New Delhi. The agreement was signed by Shri Raj Kumar, Joint Secretary (MI), Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of the Government of India and Mr. John Blomquist, Acting Country Director, World Bank (India) on behalf of the World Bank. |
3. 2-day conference of DGP, IGP of North Eastern states has begun in Guwahati Addressing the conference, Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal stressed the need for better coordination and intelligence sharing among North Eastern states to tackle insurgency and terrorism. Giving stress on smart policing, the Chief Minister emphasised on providing an environment for the growth of New India. Senior officials of central agencies are also participating in the conference. |
4. India’s communication satellite GSAT-17 has launched successfully from Kourou in French Guiana. This month this was the third satellite (1st- GSLV MkIII, 2nd- PSLV C-38) launched by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). GSAT-17 with a lift-off mass of about 3,477 kg carries payloads in Extended C-band, Normal C-band, and S-band to provide various communication services. The Satellite carries equipment for meteorological data relay and satellite-based search and rescue services being provided by earlier INSAT satellites. |

President has inaugurated 125th birth anniversary celebrations of P C Mahalanobis in Kolkata President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday inaugurated the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of P C Mahalanobis at the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata. Addressing the teachers, researchers and students during the function, Mr Mukherjee said, dogmatism and rigidity" of mind were the most obstructive forces for progress and development. |
6. India has become the first country to contribute one lakh US Dollars to a UN fund . One lakh US Dollars to a UN fund to help developing countries actively participate in the discussion of tax issues. UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs Office for Financing for Development Office announced that the UN Trust Fund for International Cooperation in Tax Matters (the UN Tax Fund) received its first financial voluntary contribution from India. |
7. Indian-American Krishna R Urs appointed as new US Ambassador to Peru. Indian-American Krishna R Urs has been appointed as the new US Ambassador to Peru by the Trump administration. A career service American diplomat since 1986, Urs is currently Charge d' Affaires of the US Embassy in Madrid, Spain. Urs has specialised in economic issues and developed extensive policy experience in the Andean region of South America. |
8. A senior IAS officer Rajiv Kumar took over as the new chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh. He replaced Rahul Bhatnagar. The state government has also reshuffled the postings of 40 IAS officers and 6 senior PCS officers. Our correspondent reports that in this reshuffling several officers who were on compulsory wait after Yogi Government came into power, have been given postings. |
9. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has started printing currency notes of ₹200 denomination. the third denomination notes to be printed after demonetisation. According to reports, the new notes with advanced security features, are unlikely to be circulated through ATM machines to avoid recalibration of machines. The proposal to issue ₹200 banknotes was cleared by the RBI in March. |
10. AP CM Naidu gives away Rs 50 lakh cash prize to shuttler Kidambi Srikanth. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister ‘N Chandrababu Naidu’ gave away 50 lakh cash prizes and offered Group 1 post to Badminton Champion Kidambi Srikanth and Rs.15 lakh cash prize for his Coach ‘P. Gopi Chand’. He also announced the allocation of 1000 square yards house site to the player in ‘Amaravathi’. |
