1. Government cuts PPF, NSC rate to 7.8 per cent . The government has reduced interest rates on small saving schemes, including the Public Provident Fund (PPF), NSCs and Kisan Vikas Patra by 10 basis points. PPF and NSCs will now earn 7.8%, while KVPs will fetch only 7.5%. Prior to this rate cut, PPF, NSC and KVP were offering 7.9 percent, 7.9 percent and 7.6 percent respectively. The Senior Citizen’s Savings Scheme and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana will now offer 8.3%.Both Senior Citizen’s Savings Scheme and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana were earlier offering 8.4 percent. |
2. India's Rural Electrification Corporation has launched its first Green Bond in London Stock Exchange . It has raised 450 million US dollars to finance renewable energy projects in India. The 10-year dated Green Bond raised 450 million US dollars, with an annual yield of 3.965 per cent on the LSE. It was 3.9 times oversubscribed on the final order book and secured strong international investor interest. The funds raised will help promote renewable energy projects all across India and aid in achieving our government's target of 175 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2022. |

5. PM Modi has inaugurated filling of Aji Dam at Rajkot by Narmada water. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated various irrigation and water-related initiatives at Aji Dam in Rajkot, Gujarat including the filling of Aji dam with Narmada waters under Sauni Yojana. PM recognized the role of younger generation in finding solutions to the everyday problems. PM on the occasion launched Smart Rajkot Hackathon where urban local body will engage with young students to find innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of various government departments. |
6. Ashok Jain has appointed as new Chief Secretary of Rajasthan. The Rajasthan government has appointed 1981 batch IAS officer Ashok Jain as the new Chief Secretary of the state. He replaced O P Meena who retired today. The state government transferred 18 IAS officers. |
7. ADB committed USD 10 billion support for development of States in India. The Asian Development Bank has committed USD 10 billion support for infrastructure building and immediate development needs of less-developed States in India. ADB President Takehiko Nakao yesterday said in New Delhi that the bank stands ready to meet immediate development needs of up to USD 5 billion over the five-year period for less developed states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh, addressing critical infrastructure and capacity deficits. |

9. KK Venugopal appointed as new Attorney General of India. He has succeed by Mukul Rohatgi . Venugopal, who has been practising law for over fifty years, has also appeared for LK Advani in the Babri Masjid demolition case at the Supreme Court. The 86-year-old held the office of Additional Solicitor General in Morarji Desai's Government. |
10. Malaysian Ringgit has become the strongest Asian currency. The Malaysian Ringgit became the strongest Asian currency this quarter by climbing twice as much as the Chinese Yuan, according to Bloomberg. The country's exports also rose, due to which the economy grew 5.6% this quarter, most since early 2015. Notably, overseas investors purchased $2.48 billion of Malaysian equities marking the biggest stock inflow in Southeast Asia this year. |
