1. India slips to 45th spot in IMD's World Competitiveness list. India has been ranked 45th, down four notches from last year, in terms of competitiveness in the annual rankings compiled by IMD which saw Hong Kong topping the list. US was pushed out of the top three slots while Hong Kong consolidated its dominance of the annual rankings for the second year in the list compiled by the International Institute for Management Development's (IMD) World Competitiveness Center. Switzerland and Singapore were ranked second and third respectively, with the USA at the fourth spot - its lowest position in five years and down from third last year. |
2. World Bank projects 7.2% growth rate for India in 2017. World Bank has revised India's growth figures by 0.4% points as compared to its January forecast. The growth projections for China remains unchanged at 6.5% (for 2017) and then 6.3% for the next two years(2018 and 2019). |

5. Nepal signs MoU with China for construction of Budhigandaki Project. The agreement was signed at Kathmandu on Sunday by Nepal Energy Minister Janardan Sharma and Lv Zexiang, President of China Gezhouba Water & Power (Group) Co Ltd (CGGC). The project will be developed on engineering, procurement, construction and finance (EPCF) model.Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong were also present at the MoU signing ceremony. |
6. TRAI launches three mobile Apps named Mycall App, Myspeed App and Do Not Disturb . The three Apps, namely Mycall App, Myspeed App and Do Not Disturb have been launched with a view to help mobile phone users rate their experience about voice call quality in real time. It will also help TRAI gather customer experience data along with network data and enable smart phone users to register their mobile numbers under DND to avoid Unsolicited Commercial Communication, telemarketing calls and SMSs. TRAI also launched its new upgraded official website. |
7. SBI launches share sale to raise Rs 11,000 crore through this QIP. This is part of plans to garner Rs 15,000 crore capital from markets in the current fiscal. In a regulatory filing, the bank said it has opened 'qualified institutional placement' (QIP) of equity shares of face value of Rs 1 to qualified institutional buyers. |
8. Isro’s most powerful rocket GSLV Mk III places GSAT-19 communication satellite in orbit. Indian Space Research Organisation on Monday successfully launched its most powerful rocket, GSLV Mk III nicknamed 'Fatboy'+ , by firing a high thrust indigenous cryogenic engine in the first developmental flight and placed the country's heaviest satellite in orbit. With the launch, Isro has demonstrated its mastery in developing a cryogenic engine, a technology denied to it years ago. The launch proves the homegrown launch vehicle's capability of hurling up to four tonne payload into higher orbits. It has also laid a strong foundation for its ambitious future projects, including Chandraayan-II and a manned mission, besides venturing into the global heavy payload market. |
9. Andhra Bank and Allahabad Bank to sell worth Rs 6,000 crore of bad loans . While Andhra Bank wants to sell off more than 100 accounts adding to about Rs 4,000 crore of loans, Allahabad Bank has invited bids for 73 accounts with outstanding loans of Rs 2,000 crore. The assets on sale include Seven Hills Hospital, Visa Power, Visa Steel, L&T Chennai Tada Toll Road, KS Oil, Transstroy India and a few of its associate companies, Maheshwari Ispat and Abhijeet Power, two senior executives told ET. 10. Ramkumar Ramanathan lifted the ITF men's Futures tennis title. The top seeded Indian beat the second seeded player 6-2, 6-2 in the final of event last night. It was the first title of the season for Ramkumar. A regular in India's Davis Cup team, Ramkumar had recently competed in the qualifying event of the French Open but failed to make it to the main round of the Grand Slam tournament. |
