1. Montenegro becomes NATO’s 29th member.

Montenegro has officially joined North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and hence became the 29th member country of NATO. Montenegro Foreign Minister Srdjan Darmanovic submitted the official accession papers in a ceremony at the US State Department.

2. NHB approves merger between Aadhar Housing Finance and DHFL Vysya Housing Finance.

The proposed merger between Aadhar Housing Finance and DHFL Vysya Housing Finance has hit the final lap with it got the nod from housing finance regulator National Housing Bank (NHB). Aadhar Housing Finance Chief Executive Officer Deo Shankar Tripathi stated that it had applied to National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for the next stage approval. Both the companies are owned by Wadhawan family promoted Wadhawan Global Capital Pvt Ltd. International Finance Corporation owns 20% in Aadhar Housing, while DHFL Vysya is fully owned by Wadhawan family.

3. Hoshiar Singh appointed chief of copyrights office.

Senior bureaucrat Hoshiar Singh has been appointed as Registrar of Copyrights. The Office of Copyrights, under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, is mandated to protect the music and film industry besides addressing its concerns, among others.

4. Reserve rates and Policy rates remains unchanged in RBI second Bi-monthly Policy 2017-18.

The Bi-monthly policy has been released based on the assessment of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) remains unchanged at 6.25 per cent. The reverse repo rate under the LAF remains at 6.0 per cent. The marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at 6.50 per cent. Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) remains unchanged at 4%.

5. Cabinet approves proposed MoU between EXIM Bank of India and Korea for export credit of 9 billion dollars.

The MoU is proposed to be signed between the two banks during Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's upcoming visit to Seoul, Korea this month for the Annual Financial Bilateral Dialogue. The decision is expected to promote the country’s international exports, and deepen political and financial ties between the two countries. The export credit will be utilized through lending by EXIM Bank for promoting projects for priority sectors, including smart cities, railways, power generation and transmission in India.

6. TRIHMS, the first medical College in Arunachal Pradesh, will start classes by September 2018.

The Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, TRIHMSwas affirmed at the second sitting of the Governing Council of the institute at Itanagar today. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The Council today approved the recruitment of various post teaching and non-teaching in the institute by December this year. 471 posts have been created of which 243 have been notified. The remaining posts are being reprocessed and the proposal would be sent to the Cabinet for approval soon. The Institution would impart MBBS courses to 50 students per intake. Provisions have also been kept to offer PG and higher courses in the near future.

7. Vijaya Bank is going to develop as many as 100 digital villages to promote digital banking among the rural population.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the bank’s 2031st ATM at Pandit Nehru Bus Station in the Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, Bank Executive Director B.S. Rama Rao stated that Vijaya Bank is the only public sector financial institution to develop digital villages with focus on rural areas and it has already developed five villages including the one in Guntur district.

8. Health Minister launches 'Skills for Life, Save a Life' initiative.

The union Health Minister ‘J P Nadda’ has launched ‘Skill for Life, Save a Life’ initiative to promote skill development in the health sector in New Delhi. The initiative aims to upscale the quality and quantity of trained professionals in the healthcare system. Various courses are planned in specific competencies for healthcare professionals as well as for the general public.

9. HCL, TCS and Wipro among top 10 global engineering services firms.

all three now have over a billion dollars in revenue from that stream, as per a study by US based HfS Research for 2016. In its study for 2015, HfS had estimated TCS and Wipro's revenues from engineering services at slightly less than a billion dollars. French firms Altran and Alten continue their firm grip on the top two spots. HCL, TCS and Wipro are at the fifth, seventh and eighth spots. Eight firms are in the over $1 billion club compared to six last year. European players have dominated these charts, demonstrating high-end engineering and consulting capabilities in aerospace and automotive sectors and supporting its customers in key areas like advanced systems, aero structures, propulsion and modernising railway signalling systems. Austria-based AVL that develops powertrain systems, France-based Akka that provides design, engineering and support to A330 and 300 cabins, and Germany-based Bertrandt that provides development solutions for automotive and aviation sectors, are also in the $1billion club.

10. Sports Ministry writes to PMO, wants Bharat Ratna for Dhyan Chand.

Sports minister Vijay Goel confirmed to PTI that he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Conferring the honour posthumously will be a fitting tribute to his exceptional service to the countryIt is not the first time that the Ministry has sought Bharat Ratna for Dhyan Chand, who helped India win three gold medals at the Olympics (1928, 1932, and 1936). During the UPA rule in 2013, the Sports Ministry had chosen the hockey wizard for the honour over cricketing great Sachin Tendulkar.However in the same year, it was eventually announced that Tendulkar will be the first sportsperson to receive the award, hours after he ended his illustrious international career.
