2. Tamil Nadu has signed a MOU with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry for the implementation of the UDAN scheme in the state. The MoU has been signed at the Secretariat in Fort St George, Chennai, by the officials in presence of chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy and the Airports Authority of India Chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra. Under the Regional Air Connectivity scheme UDAN, three of the tier-two industrial towns such as Hosur, Salem and Neyveli are to be developed in the first phase where air strips are available, though not in use. |
3. 2-day annual 17th summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has begun in Astana, Kazakhstan. Heads of six member countries of the SCO (China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgzstan, Russia, Tajikisthan, and Uzbekistan) are taking part and deliberate on matters of mutual interest including security and economy in Central Asia. India and Pakistan (so far observers) in the SCO are set to join as its full members and a formal announcement is expected during the summit. The last summit of SCO was held at Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2016. |
4. North Korea has launched multiple ground-to-ship missiles from the vicinity of Wonsan. It would be the fourth missile test by the nuclear-armed regime in less than five weeks. Early last month, the North test-fired its longest-range ballistic missile yet tested, in a bid to bring the US mainland within reach. |
5. K G Karmakar and Gauri Shankar were appointed as Independent Directors of India Post Payments Bank . The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved their appointment to the post on the board of directors of the bank for a period of three years. |
6. Kerala government implements ‘green protocol’ to make weddings more nature-friendly. With the implementation of the green protocol, plastic and other non-biodegradable articles including disposable glasses and plates and thermocol decorations will be kept at bay from marriage functions. Instead of this, people would be persuaded to use tumblers, plates and other utensils made of glass and environment-friendly metals. |
7. Tata Consultancy Services launches 'BaNCS App development kit' for banks. will enable banks to fast design and build their own apps and deploy it across devices and desktops seamlessly. "BaNCS ADK" will help banks to design and deploy both enterprise and consumer apps in a hybrid architecture, adopting modern principles of responsive web design. While "BaNCS ADK" comes with its own array of widgets, controls and components, banks can add their existing or new widgets at will and has the opportunity to open it to their ecosystem. |
8. C K Mishra, Secretary Health and Family Welfare has inaugurated the ‘Vatsalya – Maatri Amrit Kosh’. Vatsalya – Maatri Amrit Kosh is a National Human Milk Bank and Lactation Counselling Centre at the Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) in New Delhi. The Vatsalya – Maatri Amrit Kosh will be the largest milk bank and lactation counseling center available in the North India. It is established in collaboration with the Norwegian government, Oslo University and Norway-India Partnership Initiative (NIPI) |
9. IIT-Delhi has become the top institute of India by beating IISc, Bangalore. The premier IIT-Bombay entered the big league of institutes globally by bagging the 179th position in the QS World Rankings released on Thursday. The premier institute jumped 40 positions, from 219th rank last year, to join IIT-Delhi and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in the elite club of top 200 universities. IIT-Delhi and IISc-Bangalore were among the top 200 since the last two years. While IIT-Delhi (172nd) moved up a few notches this year to be the top institute in the country, beating IISc (190th), which is placed third, IIT-Bombay, held second position. |
10. Bopanna-Dabrowski has won the mixed doubles title in the French Open. In French Open Tennis, Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian teammate Gabriela Dabrowski have won the mixed doubles title beating the pair of Germany's Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Colombia's Robert Farah by 2-6, 6-2, 12-10 today. In Men's Singles, Rafael Nadal has reached the semi-finals while Novak Djokovic has been ousted in the quarter final after losing to Dominic Thiem. |
