1. India-Japan agreement for Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy has come into force. Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and Ambassador of Japan to India Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu exchanged diplomatic notes in this regard. The agreement was signed on 11th November last year in Tokyo during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Japan. MEA spokesman Gopal Baglay said, the agreement is a reflection of the strategic partnership between the two sides and will pave the way for enhanced cooperation in energy security and clean energy. |
2. Telangana government has launched “Janahitha” to receive complaints from public. The programme, kickstarted in Suryapet district on pilot basis is aimed at facilitating the public to submit their complaints on line and get speedy redressal. Besides submitting their grievances, the public can also apply for various welfare schemes through this facility. Inaugurating the programme, Telangana Energy minister G Jagdeesh Reddy said Janahitha will be implemented across the state in a phased manner. AIR correspondent reports that the Janahith, a special portal, developed by Telangana IT department, is a single window for all grievances and its redressal management. |
3. Ram Nath Kovind has been elected as the new President of India. Announcing the results, Lok Sabha Secretary General and returning officer Anoop Mishra told media in New Delhi that Mr Kovind got 2930 votes valued 7,02,044 and Meira Kumar got 1844 votes valued 3,67,314. |

6. Union Cabinet has approved 15% hike in salaries for public sector company employees. Union Cabinet has cleared a 15 per cent hike in salaries for public sector company employees. The Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved implementation of the recommendations of the 3rd Pay Commission for central public sector enterprises' employees. The new wages are effective from first of January this year. In another decision, the Cabinet has given permission to the Inland Waterways Authority of India to raise 660 crore rupees through bonds in the current fiscal for development and maintenance of national waterways. The proceeds from the bonds will be utilised for development and maintenance of national waterways. |
7. Australia became the 35th country to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA). ISA is an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2015 in Paris. It is co-led by India and France. The aim of ISA is to support developing countries to boost their solar production capacity. India on its part through the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is contributing $1 million to the ISA fund. |
