1. Uhuru Kenyatta has been re-elected as President of Kenya. Election Commission Head Wafula Chebukati announced in Nairobi that Kenyatta got 54.27 per cent votes beating his rival Raifa Odinga who got 44.74 per cent of votes. The opposition rejected the results even before they were declared, calling the process a charade. |
2. Indian Bank has reduced interest rate for Savings Accounts for deposits up to Rs 50 lakh to 3.5 Percent. According to the PSU lender Indian Bank, it has introduced two tier interest rate structure for saving bank accounts and will offer interest rate of 4 per cent per annum on savings account with incremental balance of over Rs 50 lakh and 3.50 per cent per annum for deposit up to Rs 50 lakh. The new interest rate will be effective from August 16, 2017. |

Kristal, originally from Zarnow, Poland, was born on September 15, 1903, three months before the Wright brothers’ first successful powered airplane flight. |
5. Milkha Singh has been appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Physical Activity. Legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh has been appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Physical Activity in South-East Asia Region. Mr. Milkha will promote WHO South-East Asia Region's NCD (non-communicable diseases) Prevention and Control Action Plan which seeks to reduce the level of insufficient physical activity by 10 percent and NCDs by 25 percent by 2025. |
6. Canara Bank Unveils Two New Digital Services namely Bharat QR and BBPS. The Bharat QR is a mobile application, which enables a merchant to accept payments as settlement for sale of goods or services. The second product (BBPS), an initiative of the RBI offers bill payment services to the bank's net banking customers with network of agents. |

A pilot project of NABARD 'e-Shakti' for digitization of SHGs. e-Shakti is a pilot project of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for digitization of Self Help Groups (SHGs). It was initiated to address certain concerns like improving the quality of book keeping of SHGs and to enable banks to take informed credit decisions about the group through a Management Information System (MIS). |

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Google India has launched the Android Skill Development Programme to impart mobile app development training on the Android and Web platform. Punjab National Bank (PNB) has introduced biometric attendance in the place of the existing system of signing attendance in the attendance register. 10. Davinder Singh Kang, First Indian to Qualify for Javelin Throw Finals. Davinder Singh Kang has become the first Indian to qualify for the final round of the javelin throw World Championships while his compatriot Neeraj Chopra crashed out in the qualification round. He had an 82.22m in his opening throw and then came up with 82.14m in his second. No Indian has ever qualified in the men’s javelin throw final round in any world championship. |
