1. Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao has chosen for agriculture leadership award. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been selected for the prestigious Agriculture Leadership Award-2017, according to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office. A Committee headed by agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan has recommended the CM’s name. The award will be presented on September 5 at Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi. The Chief Minister has been selected for the award for his innovative services rendered to the welfare of farmers and the farm sector. |
2. SBI alone accounts for 27% amount owed by wilful defaulters. SBI accounts for over 27% of the total amount owed to public sector banks by wilful defaulters, with 1,762 such defaulters owing as much as ₹25,104 crore to it as on March 31. PNB was next on the list with 1,120 wilful defaulters owing ₹12,278 crore. Together these two banks account for 40% of the total outstanding loans. |

4. RBI will shortly issue new banknotes of Rs 50 denomination in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. A RBI press release has informed that the base colour of the new notes will be fluorescent blue and its dimension will be 66 mm x 135 mm. It will have a motif of Hampi with Chariot on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage along with the Swachh Bharat logo, year of printing, numeral 50 in devnagiri and the language panel. The banknote will bear the signature of RBI Governor Dr. Urjit R. Patel on the front side along with the guarantee and promise clause and the RBI emblem. |

6. Two new species of Earthworm discovered in Kerala by Scientists. Scientists have discovered two new species of earthworm in the Western Ghats mountain ranges of Kerala belonging to the primitive family Moniligastridae. Scientists S Prasanth Narayanan, S Sathrumithra, G Christopher made this discovery, they all are affiliated with Kerala's Mahatma Gandhi University. The findings were published in August 2017 in the journal ZooKeys. |
7. Telengana government has launched 24X7 helpline number 181 for women. Telangana has a new helpline for anything related to women welfare, be it issues including sexual harassment, immoral trafficking, stalking, domestic violence or dowry harassment among others. The helpline will be functioning on all the 365 days, 24X7 and will also help in providing information related to women’s welfare schemes. Technological support for the helpline has been provided by GVK-E MRI. |
8. SBI has collected Rs235 crore in minimum balance fine in 1st quarter. State Bank of India (SBI) has realised Rs235.06 crore as penalty from 388.74 lakh accounts for not maintaining monthly average balance in the first quarter of the current fiscal, an RTI query has revealed. “An amount of Rs235.06 crore has been realised from our 388.74 lakh accounts which did not maintain monthly average balance in the first quarter ended 30 June,” SBI said in its reply to an application filed by Neemuch-based RTI activist Chandrashekhar Gaud. This information was furnished by a Mumbai-based deputy general manager rank officer of the bank’s operations department. |

10. Manik Sarkar has laid the foundation stone for a world-class cricket stadium in Agartala. Manik Sarkar unveiled the foundation stone for a world-class cricket stadium at Narsinghgarh in Agartala. The unveiling followed Hindu rituals on the behest of the construction company contracted by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) to build the stadium at a cost of ₹200 crore. When the Marxist Chief Minister of almost 20 years unveiled the stone, the base was full of ritual articles such as sacred lamp, incense sticks, coconut and other items. |
