1. ‘Nitasha Biswas’ has crowned the first Miss TransQueen India in Gurugram, Haryana.

Kolkata’s trans woman ‘Nitasha Biswas’ has crowned the first Miss TransQueen India in Gurugram, Haryana. Currently, Biswas is pursuing Masters in Business Management in Kolkata, West Bengal. Miss Transsexual Australia 2017 Laeticia Phylliscia Raveena had crowned the first Miss TransQueen India.

2.Vijaya Bank has launched ‘100 Digital Villages’ initiative.

Vijaya Bank has launched ‘100 Digital Villages’ initiative in an effort to bring residents of these villages under the formal banking system. The 100 villages were chosen from among 15 states across the country. Through its initiative, the bank has now reached out to more than 2.35 lakh customers, all of whom will have access to digital banking through debit cards.

3.World Book Fair 2017 has begun in Dehradun.

The World Book Fair 2017 will begin in Dehradun from August 28, with the state government offering discounts on books based on the lives of national figures. The fair is being organised with the primary aim of inculcating a habit of reading among students. The theme of the world book fair would be ‘Padega Uttarakhand, Badega Uttarakhand’.

4. 10 years of imprisonment for Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in rape case.

Special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 10 years of imprisonment. The sentencing came three days after the CBI court in Panchkula convicted Singh in a 2002 rape case. A three-tier security ring was set up around the district jail.

5. Justice Dipak Misra sworn in as new Chief Justice of India.

Justice Dipak Misra (64-year) has sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India(CJI). President Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Misra at Rashtrapati Bhawan. He replaced Chief Justice J S Khehar and hold the post till 2nd October 2018.

6. India and China have agreed to withdraw their troops from Doklam.

India and China have agreed to withdraw their troops from Doklam after being in a standoff for over two months. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the expeditious disengagement has been agreed to and is going on. The standoff had started after India objected to China constructing a road in the disputed area.

7. Sushma Swaraj will participate in Indian Ocean Conference in Colombo .

xternal Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will be in Colombo on a two-day visit to participate in Indian Ocean Conference (ICO) beginign from Thursday. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister and President are among key speakers in the event on the theme of peace, progress and prosperity. The two-day conference will have speakers from 25 countries and representatives from around 35 countries are expected to participate in the event. This will be second ICO conference, the first one held in Singapore last year.

8. Election Commission has launched Eronet portal in Assam.

Eronet facilitates various activities relating to electoral roll such as inclusion & deletion of names, name corrections. General voters may apply online for facilitation of various activities relating to electoral roll through already in-use portal nvsp.in and Eronet.

9. first edition of Rural Games or Grameen Khel Mahotsav will kick-start in Delhi.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mr. Vijay Goel announced that the first edition of Rural Games or Grameen Khel Mahotsav will kick-start from Delhi. The Rural Games will aim at popularising the indigenous games like wrestling, athletics etc. and will also have fun games like Matka Race, Tug of War for senior citizens to add the fun element in the games.

10. Nozomi Okuhara has won World Badminton Championship 2017.

Ace shuttler P V Sindhu settled for a silver after losing to Japan's Nozomi Okuhara in the final of world Badminton Championship at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday. Sindhu lost to her Japanese rival 19-21 22-20 20-22 after battling hard in the game. Earlier, Saina Nehwal ended her campaign with a bronze. Sindhu, who had won bronze twice in the 2013 and 2014 editions, became only the second Indian to win a silver medal after Saina Nehwal had achieved the feat in the last edition at Jakarta in 2015.
