1. Rajiv Kumar will be the next Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog.

Economist Rajiv Kumar will be the next Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, which is a think-tank that replaced the Planning Commission. He will succeed Arvind Panagariya, who had recently quit as Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog. Meanwhile, the Centre has also appointed Vinod Paul, a Paediatrician at AIIMS, as a member of NITI Aayog.

2. No need for central government employees to visit banks to start pension.

There is no need for central government employees to visit banks to to activate the first payment of pension. The Personnel Ministry in a recent order issued to all central government departments has said, the copy of the Pension Payment Order, PPO, will be handed over to the government employees at the time of their retirement. The rules also provide for an undertaking to be submitted by the retiring government servants or pensioners to the disbursing banks before the commencement of their pensions.

3. PNB to charge for deposits over ₹5,000 in non-base branches.

Starting from September, PNB will charge customers for depositing cash above ₹5,000 in non-base branches, even if these are located in the same city. Customers will have to pay ₹1 per ₹1,000 for same city non-base branches and ₹2 per ₹1,000 at outstation branches, and the minimum charge will be ₹25 per transaction. The charges are exclusive of 18% GST.

6. Karnataka's first child-friendly courts were inaugurated in Bengaluru.

Karnataka's first child-friendly courts were inaugurated in Bengaluru in order to create a comfortable atmosphere for child victims during the trial, as required under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The key feature of the two court halls is that they are separated by a one-way glass shield that insulates the victim-child from seeing the accused.

7. UNESCO has cautioned that the damage caused to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) due to the Gorkhaland agitation.

The UNESCO has cautioned that the damage caused to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) due to the Gorkhaland agitation may put in peril the World Heritage tag it earned in 1999. Two prime stations Gayabari and Sonada were torched while an arson attempt was made on Elysia Building.the headquarters of the DHR during the pro-Gorkhaland bandh that entered its 54th day.

8. Sajan bagged a bronze medal in the Junior World Wrestling Championships in Tampere.

India's Sajan bagged a bronze medal in Greco-Roman category after defeating Ali Osman Erbay of Turkey at the Junior World Wrestling Championships in Tampere, Finland today. Sajan defeated the Turkish grappler 6-1 in Greco-Roman 74kg class category. He is the lone Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to bag a medal at this championship.

9. India beat Sri Lanka by innings and 53 runs to clinch series.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja broke the back of Sri Lanka's resistance after lunch to secure India's series-clinching victory by an innings and 53 runs in the second test on Sunday. The all-rounder claimed his ninth five-wicket haul as Sri Lanka, forced to follow on after being shot out for 183 in the first innings, made 386 in the second before collapsing minutes before the tea break on the penultimate day.

10. Vijender has won WBO Oriental Super Middleweight title by beating Zulpikar.

Indian professional boxer Vijender Singh outslugged his Chinese opponent Zulpikar Maimaitiali to retain the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title and win the WBO Oriental Super Middleweight title. In the pro boxing bout, termed as 'Battleground Asia', at Mumbai, Vijender recorded a unanimous decision win over his Chinese opponent and continued his undefeated streak.
