Aparna, an IAS officer from Gujarat cadre has been appointed as Executive Director, World Bank to represent the constituency of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka for three years. A 1988-batch IAS, she is currently Principal Secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. At the World Bank, she will replace Subhash Garg, who was recently appointed Economic Affairs Secretary, Ministry of Finance.The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared Ms. Aparna’s name for the position and her appointment order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). |

Government has launched the second phase of measles-rubella vaccination campaign this month under which more than three crore children are expected to be covered. The second phase of campaign has begun in 8 states and union territories namely Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana and Uttarakhand. Health Ministry has initiated this vaccination campaign in the age group of 9 months to less than 15 years in a phased manner in the country. |

5. Bombay high court ordered Children aged below 14 years can't participate in Dahi handi festival. Bombay High Court today accepted Maharashtra government's undertaking that children below the age of 14 years will not be allowed to participate in Dahi Handi festival. However it refused to impose any restriction on the height of human pyramid formations. A division bench of Justices B R Gavai and M S Karnik said it was not for the high court to impose restrictions on the age of the participants, famously known as 'Govindas', in the festival and the height of pyramids. The bench said, this falls exclusively in the domain of the state legislature. |
6. India's first micro forest being built in Chhattisgarh. Nineteen acres of land which housed around 70 government office buildings in Chattisgarh’s Raipur is being converted into India's first micro forest in order to create an oxy-zone. The micro forest will provide fresh air to Raipur which is the seventh most polluted city in the word. It will reportedly be open to the public in the next 8 months. |
7.ISRO-made navigation system to rely on Indian atomic clocks. ISRO's regional positioning system NavIC will now rely on high-precision atomic clocks developed by Delhi-based National Physical Laboratory. The move, which will end ISRO's dependence on US-built GPS, comes after seven of 21 clocks onboard ISRO's navigation satellites failed, rendering one satellite useless. Atomic clocks are very precise with a margin of error of one second in 100 million years. |

10.Kerala High Court lifts BCCI's life ban on Sreesanth. The Kerala High Court on Monday quashed the life ban on cricketer S. Sreesanth imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the wake of the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. The court passed the verdict while allowing a writ petition filed by the fast bowler, challenging the decision of the BCCI disciplinary committee.The cricketer had pointed out that the decision of the disciplinary committee imposing the life ban was taken on the basis of a report prepared by an inquiry commissioner appointed by the earlier BCCI. |
