1. Ujjivan Small Finance Bank has given scheduled bank status by RBI.

Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, a subsidiary of Ujjivan Financial Services has been given scheduled bank status by RBI. It opens the door for issuing Certificate of Deposits, which will be an important source of funding. This status will enhance market acceptability of the bank in its effort to garner institutional deposits at a competitive price & participate more actively in inter-bank market.

2. PM Modi has inaugurated the annual conference of ‘Rajaswa Gyan Sangam, 2017’ in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the annual conference of ‘Rajaswa Gyan Sangam, 2017’ in New Delhi. He addressed the tax administrators during the conference jointly organised by Central Board of Direct Taxes(CBDT) and the Central Board of Excise and Customs. The objective of the Conference is to enable a two-way communication between the policy-makers and the senior officers in the field offices with a view to increase revenue collection and facilitate effective implementation of law and policies in key result areas.

3. Reliance Foundation was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award .

Reliance Foundation was awarded the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award for its contribution to promotion of sports during the national sports awards ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Foundation focuses on using sports as a medium to encourage learning & breed leadership among youth in rural areas.

4. 10th India-European Union Counter Terrorism Dialogue was held at New Delhi.

The 10th India-European Union Counter Terrorism Dialogue was held at New Delhi today. The Indian delegation was led by Shri Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary for Counter Terrorism at the Ministry of External Affairs of India, while the European Union’s delegation was led by Mr. Pawel Herczynski, Director for Security Policy, European External Action Service. During the Dialogue, both sides strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and underscored the need for deepening cooperation to combat terrorism in a long term, sustained and comprehensive manner.

5. Konkani author Mahabaleshwar Sail gets Saraswati Samman.

Eminent Konkani writer Mahabaleshwar Sail has been honoured with the Saraswati Samman 2016 for his novel Hawthan. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh and a citation. The 74-year-old writer's novel was shortlisted from 22 regional language books. Best known for his work, 'Paltadcho Munis', which inspired a film by the same name, Sail is a renowned bi-lingual writer based in Goa. He has four Marathi dramas and seven Konkani novels to his credit.

6. Rajiv Mehrishi to be next Comptroller and Auditor General.

Rajiv Mehrishi, who retired on Thursday as the Union Home Secretary, is set to be the next Comptroller and Auditor General of India. A 1978-batch IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre, Mehrishi will replace incumbent Shashi Kant Sharma, who was appointed by UPA government in May 2013. Mehrishi has a degree in business administration from Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow.

7. Maneka Gandhi has launched PMMVY & Guidelines for its Implementation in New Delhi.

Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi today launched Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and Guidelines for its Implementation at a function in New Delhi. Mrs. Gandhi also launched National Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Training, Integrated Child Development Services Training Modules and E-Training Manual for Anganwadi Workers. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, the core motive of the scheme is to benefit the pregnant women. PMMVY is effective from 1st January this year and the pregnant women are eligible for benefits under the scheme. She said that Ministry should make sure that the money sent for pregnant women is spent for their nutrition.

8. President of Swiss Confederation Doris Leuthard is on the three-day visit to India.

The President of the Swiss Confederation Doris Leuthard arrived on Thursday for her three-day visit, to strengthen bilateral, global and regional issues of mutual interest. She was accorded a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan where she was received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind.

9. Sunil Arora appointed as Election Commissioner.

Former Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sunil Arora has been appointed as an Election Commissioner.Arora has been appointed with effect from the date he assumes office, the Ministry of Law and Justice said in a statement here. He was also Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

10. Rajiv Kumar takes charge as NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman.

economist Rajiv Kumar today took over as the Vice-Chairman of government NITI Aayog. Mr Kumar replaced Indian-American economist Arvind Panagariya who left the think tank to return to academia. Mr Kumar was a senior fellow at the Centre for Policy Research. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in economics from Oxford and a PhD from Lucknow University. He also served as Secretary General of industry association, FICCI.
