3. Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated India water Week-2017 in New delhi. President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated India Water Week-2017 today (October 10, 2017) in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that water is essential to life. It is fundamental to the economy and to ecology – and to human equity. The issue of water is becoming still more critical in view of climate change and related environmental concerns. The President said that currently, 80 per cent of water in India is used by agriculture and only 15 per cent by industry. The President said that in urban India, 40 billion litres of waste water is produced every day. It is vital to adopt technology to reduce the toxic content of this water, and to deploy it for irrigation and other purposes. |
4. Uttara khand Govt. launches 'Solar Briefcase' to provide electricity in remote areas. The Uttarakhand Government and a charitable funding agency, Swan Cultural Center and Foundation, on Sunday launched 'Solar Briefcase' in Kedarnath Dham. The initiative was taken to provide electricity to far flung areas in the hill state. 47 villages and 1,40,000 families do not have access to electricity. Uttara khand govt has decided to use off-grid electricity. Solar power is a good option. There are more than 60 villages in the state where electrification has not yet been done due to the difficult geographical conditions. |

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, his cabinet colleagues and senior officials were present at the swearing-in ceremony. In his previous assignment, Mukhi served as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. |

World Bank Reduces India GDP Growth Forecast to 7% for 2017-18. the World Bank reduced India’s GDP growth forecast to 7% for 2017-18 from 7.2% estimated earlier, blaming disruptions caused by demonetisation and the implementation of the GST, while maintaining at the same time that the economy would claw back to grow at 7.4% by 2019-20. Both the Asian Development Bank as well as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have also cut their growth projections for India to 7% and 6.7%, respectively, for fiscal 2017-18. |

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday pared its growth forecast for India by half a percentage point to 6.7% for 2017, blaming the lingering disruptions caused by demonetisation of high value currencies last year and the roll out of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). However, the Fund said the structural reforms undertaken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government would trigger a recovery—above 8% in the medium term.world economy is going through a cyclical upswing that began midway through 2016.
