Indian Air Force launched innovative health application ‘MedWatch’. o mark the 85th anniversary, Indian Air Force launched an innovative health application ‘MedWatch’; aims to provide authentic health information to all IAF personnel. This app was developed while keeping in mind with the Prime Minister's vision of 'Digital India'. The App was formally launched by Chief of Air Staff BS Dhanoa on Oct 11 during the Air Force Commanders' Conference. The concept and content of the App is by the Directorate General of Medical Services (Air) and it has been developed in-house with zero financial outlay by the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT). 'MedWatch', available on the IAF's AFCEL network, comprises a host of features that will provide authentic health information to all IAF personnel. |
3. China has developed laser gun for counter-terrorism operations. China has developed a new laser gun capable of hitting the targets within 200 meters in one second for counter-terrorism operations. The gun, which contains a handset for aiming and a back pack containing the power supply with a remote control and laser emitter, was exhibited recently at a counter-terrorism drill in Central China's Hunan Province. |

5. Safe Cities Index 2017 denotes Tokyo Safest and Delhi ranked 43rd Position. Japanese capital city Tokyo has topped The Economist Intelligence Unit's Safe Cities Index 2017 which ranked 60 cities on parameters including personal and health security. Singapore and Japanese city Osaka have ranked second and third, while Indian cities Delhi and Mumbai have ranked 43rd and 45th respectively. |
6. India has ranked 100th among 119 in global hunger index 2017. India has a “serious” hunger problem and ranks 100th out of 119 countries on the global hunger index — behind North Korea, Bangladesh and Iraq but ahead of Pakistan.India stood at 97th position in last year’s rankings. “India is ranked 100th out of 119 countries, and has the third highest score in all of Asia — only Afghanistan and Pakistan are ranked worse,” IFPRI said in a statement.As per the report, India ranks below many of its neighbouring countries such as China (29th rank), Nepal (72), Myanmar (77), Sri Lank (84) and Bangladesh (88). It is ahead of Pakistan (106) and Afghanistan (107). North Korea ranks 93rd while Iraq is at 78th position. |
7. Gautam Bambawale is the India's next ambassador to China. Seasoned diplomat Gautam Bambawale, India's high commissioner to Pakistan, was on Thursday appointed as the country's next envoy to China. This was announced tonight by the external affairs ministry. A 1984 India Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Bambawale is expected to take up the assignment shortly. He will replace Vijay Gokhale. |
8. Yuvraj Singh announced as Laureus' first Indian ambassador. Flambouyant Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has vowed to give back to the next generation in his new role as a Laureus Ambassador. Singh was announced as the newest member of the Laureus Family at an event in Mumbai on Wednesday where he saw first-hand the work being done to improve the lives of young people through sport. The left-hander becomes Laureus' first Indian ambassador and joins a host of cricket legends in the Laureus Family, including Indian Academy members Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Kapil Dev. |
9. South Africa will play first ever four-day Test against Zimbabwe. South Africa will play a four-day pink ball Test against neighbours Zimbabwe in Port Elizabeth as the traditional Boxing Day fixture before India arrive for a tour in late December, Cricket South Africa has announced. The day-night match has yet to be granted Test status by the International Cricket Council but there are precedents for contests in the longest format of the game being played over three, four and six days as well as the usual five. |
10. India has qualified for 2019 AFC Asian Cup after beating Macau with 3-1. India has qualified for the 2019 Asian Cup after they pumped in three goals for a convincing 3-1 win over Macau with two matches still to go in the qualifying round. This is the third time the country has qualified for the continental showpiece. India have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup finals only twice in the past 37 years. The last time it happened was in 2011 and their only appearance before that was way back in 1984. |
