The Centre has given green clearance for a greenfield airport project at Hirasar, about 28 km from Rajkot in Gujarat, at a cost of over ₹1,400 crore. The State government has proposed a new airport in Rajkot district as the existing one is small and the earlier plan to extend the current runway could not materialise because of high land cost.The estimated cost of the project is ₹1,405 crore. It would be a single runway airport for operating ‘C’ category aircraft. The proposed project will be built in an area of 1,025.54 hectare, of which 96.48 per cent is government land. |

5. Narendra Modi has launched 'Ro-Ro' ferry service in Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the first phase of the ₹615 crore ‘roll-on-roll-off’ (Ro-Ro) ferry service between Ghogha in Saurashtra and Dahej in south Gujarat. He launched the first phase at a rally in Ghogha in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel. “This is the first of its kind project not only in India but also in South-East Asia,” Mr. Modi said at the rally which comes ahead of the Assembly polls in the State. |
6.GSTN unveils offline option for GSTR-3B returns filing. The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has released an offline facility that will allow taxpayers to finalise their GSTR-3B forms on their own computers before uploading it onto the portal. The deadline for the filing of the GSTR-3B form for September was October 20. Taxpayers have to file the summary GSTR-3B forms each month till January. This facility will provide an opportunity to the taxpayer to verify the details of GSTR 3B before filing and minimise chances of error. |
7. India ranked No. 1 in pollution related deaths: ‘Lancet’ report. With 2.51 million deaths in 2015, India has been ranked No. 1 in pollution related deaths, according to a report by The Lancet Commission on pollution and health. China recorded the second highest number of such deaths (1.8 million). India accounted for about 28 per cent of an estimated nine million pollution linked deaths worldwide in 2015. The Lancet Commission on pollution and health is a two-year project in which more than 40 international health and environmental authors led by environmental scientist Philip Landrigan were involved. |
