1.India’s first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra launched in New Delhi.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated India’s first Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) for skilling in Smart Cities on 23 October 2017 at New Delhi. The inauguration was done in collaboration with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). The main aim behind the development is to bring momentum in skilling through collaborative efforts.

2. HSBC appoints Jayant Rikhye as CEO India.

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has announced the appointment of Jayant Rikhye as the chief executive officer for India. The appointment would be effective from December 1 subject to regulatory approvals, HSBC said in a statement. In his new role, Rikhye will lead HSBC’s next phase of growth in the country, where he first joined the Group in 1989.An HSBC Group General Manager, Rikhye is currently Head of International, Asia-Pacific, responsible for 11 markets in the region. He succeeds Stuart Milne, who is also a Group General Manager, after five years in the role.

3.Nirmala Sitharaman to attend Southeast Asian defence ministers’ meet in Philippines.

In her first foreign visit as defence minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has travelled to the Philippines on Monday to attend a Southeast Asian defence ministers’ meeting which is likely to review the regional security architecture including China’s growing assertiveness in the South China Sea. During her three-day visit, Sitharaman is likely to hold bilateral talks with her counterparts from a number of countries, defence ministry officials said. The ADMM (ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting)-Plus meeting on 23 and 24 October is expected to deliberate extensively on the situation in Afghanistan and Syria besides China’s growing military presence in the disputed South China Sea.

4.Three-day grand finale of Paryatan Parv to begin in New Delhi.

Today, the 3-day grand finale of ‘Paryatan Parv’ has begun in New Delhi. The grand finale will comprise of cultural performances, crafts bazaar, multi-cuisine food court and other interactive activities. The programme has been organized with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country and reinforcing the principle of Tourism for All.

5. Sibi George appointed next Ambassador of India to Switzerland.

Sibi George has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Switzerland. He will replace Smita Purushottam. George is presently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Aftairs. He is expected to take up his assignment shortly. George, a 1993 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, has also served as deputy chief of mission of Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia.

6.Cristiano Ronaldo tops the Forbes' Rich List of sport stars.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the richest sports personality in the world, according to the latest Forbes' Rich List. The Real Madrid striker has earned an incredible £70million in the last year, along with picking up another Champions League medal and becoming the inaugural winner of The Best FIFA Men's Player award. In fact, such is the Portuguese star's wealth, he is only £1m short of being the most wealthy celebrity on the continent, with Harry Potter author JK Rowling earning £71m in that same period.

7.Gaganjeet Bhullar Clinches Macao Open Golf Title 2017.

Gaganjeet Bhullar held his nerve to complete a wire-to-wire victory and lift his eighth Asian Tour title at the Macao Open.Bhullar had seen his four-shot lead reduced to one in round three but on Sunday, he drained five birdies on the front nine and won by three shots despite a nerve-jangling double bogey on 16. The 29-year-old fired rounds of 64, 65, 74 and 68 for an aggregate score of 13-under 271, lifting his first Asian Tour trophy of the year.

8. Virat Kohli surpasses Ricky Ponting with 31st ODI century.

Virat Kohli notched up his 31st hundred during the opening match against New Zealand in Mumbai on Sunday. With this century Kohli has now surpassed legendary Australian Ricky Pointing to become the second highest century maker in ODIs. Kohli, who had a quiet series against Australia by his lofty standards, got to a double milestone by scoring a hundred on his 200th ODI, a feat only achieved by Ab de Villiers of South Africa. Kohli is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who amassed 49 ODI hundreds besides a staggering 51 centuries in Tests. The Indian captain has 17 hundreds to his name in the five-day format.

9.India beat Malaysia to clinch Asia Cup Hockey 2017.

India defeated Malaysia 2-1 in a close final to clinch its third Asia Cup hockey title in Dhaka. India scored the first goal through Ramandeep Singh in the first quarter and the second goal was scored by Lalit in the second quarter. Pakistan won the bronze after edging out Korea 6-3 in the third-fourth place play-off match.

10. Kidambi Srikanth has won Denmark Open Superseries Trophy 2017.

Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth lifted the Denmark Open Superseries trophy at Odense, Denmark. He defeated South Korea’s Lee Hyun-il in straight games, 21-10, 21-5 to bag his third Super Series title of the year and fifth overall.
