1.Gina Miller named Britain's most influential black person. Anti-Brexit campaigner Gina Miller has been named the UK’s most influential black person. The 52-year-old campaigner led the successful legal challenge which forced Theresa May to get Parliament’s approval before triggering Article 50 in March. She topped the 2018 Powerlist of 100 people, which recognises people in the UK of African and African Caribbean heritage who are rated on their “ability to change lives and alter events”. |
2.Qatar to introduce minimum wage for workers. World Cup 2022 host Qatar, under global scrutiny over its alleged ill-treatment of migrant labourers, is to introduce a minimum wage for workers. Qatar News Agency also announced that the gas-rich emirate has signed bilateral accords with 36 countries from which it draws most of its two-million-strong foreign workforce, to provide legal protection for workers headed to the Gulf. |

Singh addressed the 3rd Global Investors’ India Forum in New Delhi.Speaking further on his vision for revamping of Power sector in India, the Minister said that his Ministry is in the final stages of codifying laws on a number of fronts including State Governments/DISCOMs honouring of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and penalties for delinquencies; all DISCOMs to have tied up PPAs to cover 100% power requirements including peak loads before licenses are renewed. |
4. Modi to inaugurate international conference on consumer protection in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate international conference on consumer protection for east, south and southeast Asian countries here on Thursday, an official statement said. It is for the first time an international conference on consumer protection is being organised by India for countries of the region. The two-day conference is based on theme 'Empowering Consumers in New Markets' against the backdrop of the new UN guidelines on consumer protection calling for greater international cooperation, and will provide a platform to discuss and deliberate upon different aspects of consumer protection. |
5.Afghan President Ashraf Ghani arrives in India for one-day working visit. Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani arrived in Delhi for his one-day working visit on Tuesday and will hold detailed talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will meet EAM Sushma Swaraj and President Ram Nath Kovind. The invitation, by the prime minister, was extended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during his Kabul trip on October 16. During his visit, President Ghani will meet with his Indian counterpart and have delegation-level talks with the prime minister, who will also host a lunch in his honour. |

Spain's fourth largest city beat the likes of Hamburg, Oslo and Detroit in the 2018 Best in Travel ranking decided on by a panel of experts and based on suggestions by travel writers, editors and bloggers. |
7.Alok Kumar Pateria appointed as ADG, CISF. Alok Kumar Pateria has been appointed as the new additional director general (ADG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The appointments committee of the Union Cabinet on Monday approved the appointment of Pateria as the CISF ADG on deputation basis for a period up to May 31, 2020 - day of his superannuation from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders.Pateria is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre. Earlier in the day, the Centre appointed Dineshwar Sharma, former director of the Intelligence Bureau, as the representative of the Government of India in Jammu and Kashmir. |

India has 108 publicly-listed family-owned businesses, third highest in the world, while China tops the tally with 167 such companies followed by the US which has 121, says a Credit Suisse report. As per the Credit Suisse Research Institute's (CSRI) latest "CS Family 1000" report, with an average market capitalisation of $ 6.5 billion, India ranks 5th in Asia Pacific excluding Japan, and 22nd globally, in terms of average m-cap. |
9. SBI reduces IMPS service charges up to 80 percent. SBI has slashed Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) charges up to 80 pct. This latest development by the State Bank of India comes as a huge relief for the SBI customers. If the users are doing an online transaction of money after selecting IMPS option, then they will have to pay 80 pct less charge than what they used to pay earlier. |
